When you think of a Saint Bernard, you think of them in the snowy Alps with a barrel strapped around the neck rescuing skiers from avalanches. But occasionally, they deserve time off and a trip to the water. Girls can't work all of the time. Every now and then girls just wanna have fun! If a water rescue is needed during vacation, it's all in the line of Saint Dog duty.

Note: The treacherous St. Bernard Pass and the traveler's hospice in the Western Alps between Switzerland and Italy gave the noble dog its name. Bernard of Menthon, an 11th century monk established the station. Before the mid-19th century, the dogs were called "Saint Dogs", "Alpenmastiff", "Noble Steeds", or "Barry Dogs" after Barry - a St. Bernard who saved from 40 to 100 lives. Barry was the most famous of this breed and his monument was located in the Cimetiere des Chiens. His body was preserved in the Natural History Museum in Berne. Severe weather during 1816 and 1818 led to an increased number of avalanches that killed many of the saint dogs while performing rescue work. No longer used for avalanche rescue work, they participate in carting and weight pulling.
